Conditions necessary for working as a lawyer in Germany:

Higher education. Admission to work as a lawyer in Germany can only be obtained if you have a complete higher education that meets the qualifications of a judge. This qualification is commonly referred to as Volljurist, which means “full lawyer”. Currently, only former graduates of the State Security Law Institute, who received diplomas before 1991, are qualified as lawyers, without qualifications as a full lawyer. Qualifications of a full lawyer are acquired after graduating from a German higher legal education. The duration of study is 4 years. After training, it is mandatory to undergo practice at the land courts or at the court of Berlin. According to the rules, all graduates practice at all institutions of the judicial system. Training in law in Germany

All higher education institutions in Germany train lawyers who can simultaneously work as a lawyer, judge and prosecutor. Training is based on two stages. At the end of each, students take a state exam. Upon successful passing the first exam, students can already receive the title of lawyer. After the first stage, legal practice is mandatory for 2 years. During training at the second stage, knowledge is deepened and the future specialization of a lawyer is selected.
